Western Idolisation

Remember my post not to long ago about Aussie accent? It is very funny how us Malaysians (and perhaps all Asians??) love to idolize and emulate the Westerners.

I don't know if it's just me, but do any of you find that annoying??

I once had a friend who went to the U.S. for a 2-week vacation and came back with a very fake strong American accent... and loves to start a sentence with "Back in the states....". Spending a couple of weeks there does not make that place your home.

Then there's a colleague I have who studied in the UK for a couple of years and loves to babble on and on about how "In the UK, we had this.... In the UK, it was like that...." If you love it there so much, why come back?

And of course, those instructors who had an Aussie accent just because their trainer is an Aussie.

If these people had grown up there since childhood, or has spend all their lives there, I can understand why the accent sticks and why they would be used to the way thing were done there. Spending a short time there does not automatically make you a local there.

This is your home, Malaysia! You should be saying "Back in my kampung, we had...". Why not be proud of your real home?

It is very funny how ONLY those who goes to the Western countries do that. Those to go to the Eastern/Asian countries; be it to study, or for holidays do not catch that bug. Have you ever met a Chinese dude who studied medicine in India come back talking like this??

Hi! I am doctorrr Lee. Wod ees yourrr good name sirrr? Au mide youu be feeeling doday?

Health is wealth

My dad has been suffering shoulder and arm pain for the past one month. Like most Chinese people over 50, no matter how I persuaded him to go see a doctor, he did not listen.

He went to see a Chinese Tabib instead for Urut. He said he had some muscular/nerve pain so he just urut with all his might! The result was severe decapacitating pain!! On Sunday, he could no longer stand the acute pain I had to admit him to the Emergency Department in Hospital Serdang.

After doing an x-ray, this was what they found.

Cervical Spondylosis/Osteophytes

The Emergency MO said it was not dangerous, only painful. Many old people suffer this as their bones degenerate. She gave him a referral letter to see the Orthopaedic Specialist and Physiotherapist, also some analgesia drugs/painkillers.

Yesterday, his pain acted up again, so severe that his painkillers don't work. He was again admitted to the Emergengy Department, this time given IV analgesia. The ER staff told us there were no Orthos around to see him, asked us to go home. I know that cannot be true as at least 1 Ortho has to be on call. I insisted to see the on-call Ortho. They finally called the on-call Ortho MO. She came down to see my dad and gave the same diagnosis then gave him an appointment to see the specialist today and more painkillers.

Today, he finally saw the Consultant Ortho. Not only was the osteophytes on the spine, it was also on the shoulder blades. But it was not severe, continuous physiotherapy should do the trick. Surgery is only the last resort, 75% of the sufferers get healed using physiotherapy.

Phew!! You cannot imagine how relieved my dad and my entire family was that it was not serious, that surgery was not needed. We can finally breathe normally back today...

Isn't it scary how your health deteriorates for no reason but your age? My dad is a healthy man, no history of any disease, eats well, does regular light exercises and drinks plenty of water. Take care of your health, you'll realize how much you miss it when you lose it.

Writer's block

Haven't had any inspiration on what to blog about lately. Blank...

Wanted to blog about the Church Camp but because I was not in the best of mood at the time, I did not take much pictures. :(

This post is just to let you all know that I am still alive, and so is this blog.
But my mind? Still blank...

Goodbye Poh Poh

My grandmother just passed away this morning... peacefully, in her sleep. She had not been well for many years, after an episode of stroke.

Farewell Poh Poh

It was a very heartbreaking news for my mom. My sister and I were not very close to Poh Poh because we live in KL and she lived in Penang... but still we have fond memories of her. We will be leaving for Penang tomorrow.

The most heartbreaking part for me is that she was not saved. All you Christians out there with non-believer families will understand exactly how I feel. There is no feeling of consolation that your loved one has returned to the Lord. How you wish you had shared the Lord with her earlier, how you wish you had prayed for her more often. It is times like these that the urgency hits you, the urgency of bringing all your loved ones to Christ.

Life is fragile... do not procrastinate.

Who to give your best?

I wonder why is it always easiest to hurt those closest to you? Why is it most difficult to take criticism constructively from those closest to you?

When your boss tells you your flaws, you take it constructively and improve yourself in your work.
When your lecturer/teacher tells you you are weak in a certain area, you works hard on those areas.
When your dance/vocal trainer tells you you gotta work on your rhythm, you spend many more hours practising.

Are we born great employees? Great students? Great sportsmen? Great dancers? Great singers?
No, we take conscious effort to better ourselves to reach that level of greatness!

But...
When you mom tells you you should not befriend your drinking, partying fair-weathered "friends", you yell at her for denying you your rights to choose your own friends.
When your church friends tells you to break-up with your married boyfriend, you yell at them for imposing their self-rightous ways on you.
When your wife tells you to write down things so that you would not carelessly forget, you yell at her for nagging... you can't change, so accept it or leave!

Your mom loves you and worries about your safety.
Your church friends loves you and worries about your future.
Your wife loves you and worries that carelessness could cause you detrimental consequences.

But because they love you, you know they will forgive you.

Why do people do the best in their efforst to improve themselves for everyone else but those that love them? Don't these loved ones deserve your best?
Do give them your best before one day when it's too late. For your best will give them the greatest joy in life... much more joy than your boss, your lecturer, your trainer to whom you give your best to, ever will.

Miracle Audition: 4TY CENT da bomb!

Last Friday was the auditions for the Miracle Team Challenge at FF IOI. The finalists will be able to present 1 track at the launch of the new release of Bodyjam 41 for a charity event!

That was what I had been busy with... practising da choreography for Bodyjam 34's Disco Inferno (by 50Cent). Whoa... now I know it is not easy to be an instructor. This is only 1 single track, imagine those who have to memorize the chorey for many many releases!!

My tribe??? 4Ty Cent!!

From left: me, Farah, Jean and Ann

We've been practising until pretty late at night, because we had to start our practices rather late, after the studios are free from the group-x classes.

Huddling for last minute pep-talk!

We did a few boo-boos during the performance but it was really fun! I could feel the tribe-chemistry of 4Ty Cent's performance!!! Hot!

Hip hop mania!

Bruuuuuuuutal looks!

Anyway, bf was too busy being a judge to take that many good shots... so I don't have much pics to post up yet. However, one of the team members from our rival team took plenty of pics and even a video of our performance as well as theirs! They were dressed to kill in their sizzling Latino outfits. Really cool! Can't wait to see those pics! :)

Bodyjammers are da coolest bunch I've met, they can be rivals and great friends at the same time. All we want to have lotsa fun, dance our hearts out and perform!!! The last time they had this tribe challenge, I was in a Bodycombat team... and just like the name, all da teams were in Combat! They had a much stronger competitive streak than the Bodyjammers.

My lean mean Bodycombat ex-tribe leader!!

You lookin at me???!!!

Hope we can make it to da finals!! All will be revealed on June 4th! Arrghhh... suspense gila!
